Frequently Asked Questions
Flour Bluff Chiropractic Answers Common Questions
New to chiropractic? Or have you been a patient before, but never with us? It’s understandable that you might have some questions. Here, you’ll find answers to the ones we’re most commonly asked at Flour Bluff Chiropractic.
Once I start seeing a chiropractor, do I always have to go?
No, but we recommend maintenance care for everyone. Outside of the office, you return to your normal life. That might involve sitting in front of a computer, lifting, running after kids and other forms of stress. Those activities are what led you here in the first place, and we recommend you stay on top of it, so your problems don’t return.
Does the adjustment hurt?
The goal of the adjustment is to provide relief. If an area is particularly tender that needs to be adjusted, you may feel some sensation there. You can also be sore after your adjustment, which is similar to the feeling you’d get if you worked out at the gym for the first time in a while.
Can chiropractic cure everything?
No. Just like any other form of health care, chiropractic cannot cover all needs.
Why would I have my newborn or young child adjusted?
The birthing process isn’t just strenuous for Mom – it is for the baby, too. Newborns commonly have dysfunction in the upper neck. We can gently check them to make sure their spine isn’t fixated. Parents notice that after being adjusted, their baby sleeps better, eats better and has regular bowel movements.
People even bring their babies in to get help with colic. Since spinal dysfunction stresses the nervous system, removing that dysfunction can help your baby’s body function better.
Does insurance cover chiropractic?
Generally, yes. Every plan is different, however, so it will depend on your benefits.
Do I need a referral from a physician to see you?
No, a physician’s referral is not required to be a patient here.
Do you work with medical doctors?
Yes. If we find something outside of our scope of practice, we will be happy to refer you to another practitioner. It’s our goal to make sure you get the help you need, even if it’s not with us.
Will I get adjusted on my first visit?
Typically, no. That’s because we want to sit down and study your exam findings and X-rays to get down to the cause of your problem. You will, however, receive a lighter form of treatment on your first day to see how you respond to it.
Will you suggest exercises or other things I can do?
Yes. We give our patients exercises and stretches that they can do at home during their treatment plan when appropriate. As you go through care and your spine is stabilized, exercises can be added in.
Can someone who has had back surgery go to a chiropractor?
Yes, though it will depend on the type of surgery. We have seen patients with fusions and laminectomies. The way we adjust will be adapted to you.
